On February 3, T4MA along with MassBike, Families for Safe Streets, and other members of the MA Vision Zero Coalition, held a Day of Action at the Statehouse in support of road safety camera legislation
Members of Families for Safe Streets who had been directly impacted by traffic violence spoke about the loss of their loved one, and how allowing for road safety cameras could protect other families from experiencing tragedies like theirs.
Thanks to Senator Brownsberger and Representative Owens for their leadership on this legislation, and many thanks to all of the advocates who are championing this issue to improve the safety of our streets. Seeing the room packed with a wide range of stakeholders, including legislators and legislative staffers, advocates, municipal leaders, law enforcement, and other concerned residents is a hopeful sign that this could be the session for this bill to pass.
The bill, S.2344/H.3754 An Act relative to traffic regulation using road safety cameras, would allow municipalities to install red light, speed, and other safety cameras. Safety cameras are effective at changing driver behavior and are a proven tool to reduce speeding and crashes, increasing safety for people on our roadways.
