GBH X The Money Train: Autonomous Vehicles

On Monday November 17, in partnership with GBH, T4MA hosted the next stop on the Money Train journey: a conversation on autonomous vehicles.

The discussion with experts Jeffrey Tumlin, Former Executive Director of the San Francisco MTA, Darlene Lombos, President of the Greater Boston Labor Council, Stephanie Pollack, Former Federal Highway Deputy Administrator and MassDOT Secretary, Mark Fagan, Lecturer in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School, moderated by GBH reporter Jeremy Siegel, focused on questions of safety, necessary state and local regulations, and the human and economic costs of driverless cars being deployed in cities.

The panel conversation highlighted the importance of thinking about how driverless cars would accommodate riders with disabilities, what kinds of regulations we want to have in place before these cars are on our roads and what rules they should follow, how to manage impacts on congestion and public transit ridership, and the need to better understand the impacts to the driver workforce.
