On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, T4MA and Smart Growth America launched the 2026 Champions Institute sessions with an in person convening in Worcester, MA.
The newest cohort of champions came together to learn from Heidi Smith of Transportation for America about safe streets and complete streets programs, along with a Walk-Audit 101 session from Brendan Kearney of WalkMassachusetts.
Following the learning session, the cohort were taken on a guided walk-audit of some of the most highly travelled parts of downtown Worcester, lead by WalkMassachusetts staff members. This walk audit allowed the cohort to identify and discuss safe street concerns, wins and potential for improvement along the route.
